About
In the beginning of making new works there has been and still is a way of thinking that brings about how I approach my experiments in the studio. And I say experiments because everything I do comes from using my studio as a laboratory where I explore how I want to speak about disruption, destruction and what being on the edge of chaos might mean. I explore with my various materials what it means to face random tragedies that come and go in our lives and gives life a feeling of absurdity. We, as humans together and collectively experience these random chaotic events sometimes privately and sometimes publicly.
In order to speak as I want about these random absurd events my choice of materials can be cardboard, fabric, chicken wire, newspaper, duck tape, paper machete and wood common everyday materials. My explorations lead me to twisting, tying, binding, burning, stripping, tearing, hanging, knotting, dying, gluing, cutting, and piling always searching and finding a way to show humor and tragedy existing side by side. The color red is strength and courage and through the many twisting and knotting and tearing is resilience and mending. The act of layering and piling is a way of speaking about our shared human personal and public collective histories our memories, our stories. And for me it is always about resilience, resolution and mending.
